Engineering for iOS and the platforms beside it

AppMakersLab

We are a professional engineering team. We design and develop modern digital software for the iOS platform and the technologies that sit around it.

Why the first week decides the rest

Scale, upkeep and speed are not features that can be bolted on near the end. They are consequences of decisions taken in the first week: how responsibilities are divided, where state is allowed to live, and what each piece is permitted to know about the others.

So we spend that week carefully. A system that is pleasant to use, that stays up under load, and that still makes sense to whoever opens it two years from now is not luck. It is the return on structural work that nobody ever sees.

Long-term technical quality is the thing we optimise for, because every other quality — stability, usability, the speed of the next change — is downstream of it.

On the bench

  1. Clean architecture

Responsibilities split along seams that will not move later. One direction of flow, one owner for each decision.

  2. Performance optimization

We profile before we tune. Frame time, allocations, wake-ups and battery draw are numbers we watch rather than guess at.

  3. User-centered design

Screens drawn from how the work is really done, from accessibility requirements, and from the rule that clarity beats decoration.

  4. Scalability

Pieces compose, and the joints between them hold still. New capability should feel like extending the system, never like replacing it.

  5. Stability

Review, defensive engineering and automated verification stand between a change and its release. Regressions get caught by machinery, not by luck.

  6. Maintainability

Code that reads cleanly, decisions written down where they can be found again, and conventions that do not drift from one corner to another.

Kept current

Continuous innovation
Promising technology is tried early and in the open, and adopted only once it has survived real traffic.
Development workflows
The way we work is revised as often as the things we build, so output never has to be paid for in quality.
Up-to-date standards
We follow the platform as it moves instead of defending whichever version we happened to learn it on.
Technical excellence
Not a milestone to be reached once, but the habit that keeps results dependable and ready for whatever arrives next.
